Last updated: 25 September 2026. This policy takes effect when Curvio is first released.
This explains what Curvio does with your information, in plain words. If anything here is unclear, ask us — the address is at the bottom.
Curvio is provided by Curvio Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17476350), registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. For data protection law, we are the "data controller" for the information described here.
Contact us about anything in this policy at privacy@curvio.app.
You control this through iOS Settings, and you can change or withdraw it at any time. Turning location off means Curvio can't design a route from where you are or record a run.
We do not track you in the background when you are not recording.
Your description of the route ("a flat 10k to Paddington station, coffee at a Gail's") is sent to our server and on to Anthropic's Claude AI, which turns it into a set of instructions the route designer understands. We do not store what you type and we do not write it to our logs — our server records only how many tokens the request used, so we can watch costs.
Curvio creates a private account for you the first time you open the app. There is no sign-up screen and no password: it's a random identifier, nothing more. We don't know your name or email address unless you tell us.
If you choose Sign in with Apple (Settings → Account), Apple confirms who you are and tells us a stable identifier and an email address — your own, or a private relay address Apple makes for you if you pick "Hide My Email". We ask Apple for nothing else, not even your name. The email is kept with your account so you can get back to it from a new phone; we don't send you email. We also keep one token from Apple, for a single purpose: when you delete your account we use it to tell Apple you've stopped using Curvio, so Curvio disappears from the Sign in with Apple list in your Apple ID settings. Signing out keeps your account and everything in it; deleting your account removes the lot.
If you sign in on a second phone, or after reinstalling, the runs and routes that phone had already made are added to your account, so nothing is lost.
Recorded runs — the GPS trail, times, distance, climb and any pauses — are stored on your phone and backed up to your account so they survive a lost phone. Routes you save are kept with your account too. Finished runs are also sent to our mapping provider to be tidied up: the trail is snapped to the paths you actually used so the distance is right.
We record the date and time of each AI request and route design — not what it was — so we can apply a daily allowance. This is what stops one account running up a large bill.
Our map provider, Mapbox, collects anonymous information about how their maps are used. You can turn this off in Curvio's Settings, under About.
You can set a privacy zone in Settings — a circle around home, or anywhere else. Any part of a route inside it is removed before you share a picture of it or export it, so what you send doesn't start at your front door. The zone is stored only on your phone and never sent to us, so we don't know where it is. It applies when you share, not retrospectively, so it can't protect something you've already sent.
We don't show adverts, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
Under UK and EU data protection law we rely on:
We use a small number of established companies to run Curvio. They act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes.
| Who | What they do | What they receive | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts our database and server | Your account, runs, saved routes | Ireland (EU) |
| Anthropic | Understands what you typed | The text of your request | United States |
| Stadia Maps | Routing, place search, tidying recorded runs, ground heights | Start and destination coordinates, place searches, the GPS trail of a finished run | United States |
| Mapbox | The map you see | Map requests, and usage reporting unless you turn it off | United States |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, only if you choose it | Your request to sign in. Apple then tells us an identifier and email — Apple learns nothing about your runs | United States |
Anthropic's commercial terms state that they may not train their models on customer content, so what you type is not used to improve their AI.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety or our rights.
Your account, runs and saved routes are stored in Ireland. Our AI, routing and map providers are in the United States, so some information — your location and what you type — is sent there. Those transfers are covered by the standard contractual clauses and UK addendum in each provider's data processing terms.
Delete your account and everything above goes with it, straight away and for good.
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or hand it to another service. Two of these are built into the app, so you don't have to ask anyone:
For anything else, write to privacy@curvio.app and we'll respond within one month.
If you think we've handled your information badly, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), the UK's data protection regulator.
Curvio is not intended for children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has been using Curvio with an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Your runs and saved routes are protected so that only your account can reach them, and our keys for the AI, routing and map services stay on our server — they are never in the app. No system is perfect, but we take this seriously.
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
